Detailed Description
Other amenities/services: Conference room capacity: 20pax. 29 suites, 24-hour room service.Morgans is a deluxe hotel located in Midtown Manhattan. Designed by Andree Putman and situated right on Madison Avenue, this Ian Schrager Hotel is stylish, contemporary and cosmopolitan. The Morgans in-house restaurant, Asia de Cuba, is one of the top 10 restaurants in NYC. The newly renovated Morgans Bar is a hip watering hole for the fashion industry. A complimentary continental breakfast is served each morning in Asia de Cuba. Morgan's fourth floor Living Room is an exclusive lounge for guests, where they can enjoy a selection of teas and coffee throughout the day. The Penthouse on the 19th floor and the Living Room may also be taken for private meeting space. Labeled by Vanity Fair as the "handsomest hotel in New York", Morgans is a real treat for the eyes. Rich fabrics are generously appointed throughout the guestrooms: raw silk, brushed suede, cashmere and corded velvet. The rooms feature down pillows and comforters, private direct telephone numbers, and large, color TV and VCR. Fax machines, portable telephones, CD players and computers are available upon request. Centrally located in Midtown, Morgans is near fine dining, shopping and entertainment venues.   The hotel that started it all, Morgans, located in the heart of Manhattan, is a quietly sophisticated hotel offering understated elegance and unparalleled service in an intimate, friendly, home-away-from-home atmosphere. With interiors by the renowned French designer Andree Putman, Morgans’ chic, decidedly residential feel created a sensation in the hotel industry when it opened 20 years ago, and is still the choice for discerning travelers seeking the very best. With its ultra-comfortable Guestrooms, cozy Living Room, the exciting new Morgans Bar, and the wildly popular Asia de Cuba restaurant, Morgans has earned its reputation as a New York classic.Conceived by critically acclaimed French designer Andree Putman, Morgans 113 guestrooms and suites bespeak a quiet, timeless elegance. Soothing shades of taupe, camel and ivory are accented by birdseye maple paneling, luxe bedding, plush ultrasuede banquettes, silk throw pillows, roomy corduroy clubchairs, and the now legendary black and white tiled bathrooms. The walls have been painted using a special technique that creates a subtle “impressionist” effect, providing the perfect backdrop for original black and white photographs, specially commissioned by the hotel from world-renowned artist Robert Mapplethorpe.Morgans offers multi-service meeting spaces in New York with state-of-the-art audio-visual equipment, computers with internet access, smart boards, electronic flip charts, plasma monitors for audio-visual playback, portable computers, mobile phones and fax machines available upon request. Also available for special functions are the hotel’s acclaimed Penthouse, Living Room, Morgans Bar, and Asia de Cuba restaurant. From the day it opened, Asia de Cuba has been one of New York’s liveliest and most popular restaurants. Under the direction of acclaimed restaurateur Jeffrey Chodorow, Asia de Cuba serves an innovative menu that blends the best of Asian and Latino cuisines in a soaring and beautifully theatrical Philippe Starck-designed space. Featuring a 30-foot long illuminated marble communal table that runs through the main dining area, a 15-foot tall photo lightbox featuring a “running waterfall,” ultra-comfortable high-backed white banquettes, and cozy living room areas with fireplaces. One of New York’s hottest nightspots, Morgans Bar is tucked away in a surreally glamorous subterranean world beneath the hotel Lobby. The bar’s rustic exposed brick walls, poured concrete floor, and dozens of flickering candles evoke the feeling of a charming wine-cellar – but for the outrageous collection of furniture, from Louis XVI gilded fauteuil chairs upholstered in bold digitized prints of flowers, an enormous carved sleigh bed fashioned entirely of clear Lucite, chain metal curtains, and side tables that look like melting blocks of ice. In keeping with its residential mood, the Living Room at Morgans feels like the private library or drawing room of a classic estate transported to midtown Manhattan. Filled with a charming mix of styles, from comfortable English sofas, to a midcentury modern Danish chair, to African carved wood side tables, as well as televisions, computers, and shelves filled with books on everything from film and fashion to politics and geography, the Living Room is the ideal place to relax, have a drink, enjoy a movie, read a book or play a computer game. **Please note that each guest is required to have a credit card at check-in. An authorization for the amount of $150.00 per day will be assessed for incidentals.**The hotel is perfect for those with a bit of patience, who want a taste of New York, an exceedingly handsome atmosphere, but with just a bit of nostalgia for what they have left behind. No pets allowed in the hotel. Please be aware that each individual guest will be responsible for incidental charges to be paid upon departure. To guarantee these charges, the hotel requires credit card at time of check in. An authorization for the amount of 150 USD per day will be assessed for incidentals. The hotel will be unable to register any guest that is not able to provide sufficient credit to cover their charges upon arrival. The turn-of-the-century building is grand from the outside, with its Beaux-Arts limestone facade, but inside is smaller and less intimidating than Morgans Hotel Groups' other hotels. The small lobby resembles a slightly updated, but very tasteful mansion living room: leather armchairs, 1920's nickel lamps, and Parisian flea market cane tables. There's also an M.C. Escher carpet and Japanese paper screens but the feeling is old-fashioned formal.
Rooms
Elegantly unfussy, the rooms are designed for ultimate comfort: the grey-tone carpeting giving first indication that guests are entering a space of shelter, the signature Morgans alcove framing the city and giving guests a space to curl up and breathe on a sofa that looks like a twirling ribbon. Keeping the rooms' architectural characteristics intact and changing only the color scheme and the furnishings, Putman has introduced a series of objects - an armchair upholstered in wool and detailed with stitches evoking a bespoke suit, a metal-inlaid Corian table, and La Notte beside lamps in a tribute to Antonioni - that speak to the sophisticated yet understated luxury of the hotel. The walls are bathed in a titanium colored paint, and Putman has created a new lacquered aluminum chair, produced by Emeco, that operates as, she says, "the soul mate" of the Mallet-Stevens chair that originally made the Morgans its home. The bathrooms, a signature design feature of Morgans, retain their strong, visual identity and update their striking black-and-white checkered pattern, combining the evocation of the 1930's and the digital age, referencing oversized pixels. In the style of Andree Putman, every detail of the new Morgans strikes the balance between history and modernity. For the penthouse, Putman kept the original spirit intact but ensured contemporary flexibility through the playfulness of the furniture. Putman's sofa, Pillow Fight, is modular and adaptable, and small pieces by Bourroulec and Marcel Wanders complete the look. A black light suspension by Serge Mouille greets guests when they first walk in, as does a working space furnished with a desk, a light grey leather-covered armchair -- whose color picks up the room's warm grey palette -- and a lamp, Compas dans l'Oeil, designed by Putman. The table, Tribute to Jean-Pierre Raynaud, echoes the iconic Morgans bathroom with its black and white tiles, a pattern reiterated in the cloud-like randomly-assembled grey-square carpet, and combines the hotel's history and present in one stunning object. Continental breakfast included in all room rates served in Asia de Cuba.
